How to confirm your NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) is officially registered?

Now that your NIE is officially registered, you can move forward with opening a bank account, signing a rental contract - or whatever comes next in your journey.
The good news? Your NIE is official, and yes - you can verify it yourself in just a few clicks.
🔗 How to check your NIE using the official portal.
Step 1: copy your verification (CSV) code
You’ll find the the verification code (CSV code) on the left side of your NIE certificate. It looks like this: 01234-56789-01234-56789. Make sure to enter the entire code exactly as it appears, including all dashes - don’t skip or change anything.

Step 2: Visit the official online portal of the Spanish National Police
Open your web-browser and navigate to the official portal of the Spanish National Police . This is the official website of the Policía Nacional where you can verify your document.

Step 3: Fill in the CSV code and resolve the captcha
- Enter your CSV code exactly as it appears on your NIE, including all dashes and capital letters.
- Solve the CAPTCHA (security check).
- Then click “Enviar formulario” and after that, “Descargar” to download your certificate.

Step 4: Downloading the certificate of NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero)
At this stage, the Policía Nacional’s system will automatically check your code in their database. If everything was entered correctly, you’ll be able to download a verified PDF certificate of your NIE — directly from the official source.
